windows

something i absolutely love is places that i spend a lot of times with windows. i really want my kitchen sink to face my backyard so that when i'm doing dishes i can see my wildflower garden, watch the seasons change and my children play. i also want a reading nook somewhere in my home where i can just go curl up and lay in the sunlight through the window and read and most likely fall asleep.

something i absolutely don't understand is the entirety of the male species. seriously though. all i ever wanted was some consistency.

new semester

I have officially been to every class I am going to have this semester. And I cannot even wait to begin. Oh wait. I already have. I am currently reading two chapters from Bradford's History Of Plymouth Plantation for my American Literature class. And next I am going to be reading works by Anna Letitia Barbauld and Charlotte Smith for my British Literature class. I am so excited to start diving into reading. This is the exact reason I became an english major. To become well read and to spend my time doing something I thoroughly enjoy. I am also taking a Rediscovery of the Classical Period course which I'm going to love (right now we're mummifying a chicken. how amazing is that?) and then I have my Samford Core Curriculum class Biblical Perspectives, and I absolutely adore my professor. Come to think of it, I adore all my professors. My Brit Lit prof printed his syllabi on purple paper. Why? "Because purple is for royalty. And English majors are Royal" He is a precious elderly man who rambles on about nothing. I cannot wait for this semester to commence. I will literally almost always have my nose in a book.

beauty

Sometimes I am so taken aback by what a beautiful world we live in. I often times don't take the time to look up from everything that is happening around me and see the beauty of my surroundings. Why do we allow ourselves to do this? We get so wrapped up in our little lives and allow ourselves to believe that the world is ugly and evil. Take a minute. Look up into the sky to see the array of stars. Look out your window and witness a beautiful sunset or sunrise. Open your car windows and let the breeze roll all around you. You will be surprised by the utter contentment you will feel.

Also. Give a listen to Ben Sollee, in general of course, but in particular his song Panning for Gold. It is absolutely glorious.

moment living

Serendipity (n): an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.

I'm not one to really believe in love at first sight. Trust me, I think that's almost a little silly. However, I do believe that people should live in the moment, instead of waiting for this fictitious "perfect moment" to come around. The stars are never going to align. All of your circumstances will not all of a sudden make it easier for you. If you want to go for it, then do it. You only live once. Be fearless. She's never going to be sorry enough for her poor choices she made to make them go away. He's never going to open up unless you let him know how much you care about him. You're never going to truly believe that you're "good enough" if you live by how other people define you. If you have a dream, chase after it. If you don't want to let it die, don't give up.
The people who are serendipitous are the ones who are open to something new, and make the best out of life's outcomes.

up and coming

it's almost spring timeee. that means florals and pastels and the beginning of warmer days. days to be spent on the quad with your best friends in airy dresses giggling at the stories from the weekend and planning the continuous game of Hardcore Heartbreaker. yes. this spring is going to be the best yet.

I want it now.

1 it to be warm and summery and me to be wearing this top from anthro.

2 to be snogging with a good looking gent who is sweet and caring in an abandoned feild. preferably on a blanket.

3 to have a doorbell all my own.

Current Loves

1 michael cera. clearly. he is the most precious person on the face of the planet and I cannot think of a single one of his characters I haven't enjoyed.

2 the catcher in the rye by J. D. Salinger. phenomenal book. couldn't tell you why I love it so much, it's just one of those classics that is necessary to have a respect for

3 animal collective. particularly did you see the words. magnificent.

quite the evening.

so good times at the movie theater with sarah tonight. went to see youth in revolt (which is phenom, btw) and these two guys, felix (hence the picture) and jessie, walk in and start conversing with us. it was the best experience of my life. no big. then felix after said he gets into movies for free so if we ever wanted to get in we could text him and proceeded to give us his number. after passing the creeper test of not following us to our car, i decided to be nice and text him. just thought my evening needed to be recorded. don't be jealous. but at the end of the day. make new friends. and see youth in revolt. duh.

Something Different

"If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don't be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning 'good morning' at total strangers"
-Maya Angelou

So I am reorganizing, reconstructing, re-whatever you will-ing. Posts will more often than not begin to look like this. Much shorter and simpler, consisting of a thought, quote, or picture of the day perhaps. Other times I am sure I will need to rant about something or other and posts will be longer. But I'd rather just get to the point and allow a swift glance into my life and what has touched me. Like this quote by Maya Angelou. Splendid.

1.16.2010

Hello. Again.

Greetings again, blog world. My, how things have changed. It is now the year 2010, and I welcome it with arms wide and hopes high. The past six months have been just the most interesting. My father was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and I still often times refuse to confront that issue. Probably not the healthiest of decisions but I'll deal with it when I am good and ready. I commenced my sophomore year and made lots of new friends which I have grown to adore and absolutely lack the ability to live without them. I've experimented with things of which I probably shouldn't mention in a public forum, and have gotten a piercing in my left ear that nearly killed my mother. I have officially kissed a boy and that was quite the interesting experience. I understand why people enjoy it so very much now. Except I feel as though I would understand that all the better had I experienced with a person of which I was genuinely interested, rather than an individual whom I had met merely hours before. So, were I to give my first bit of advice for the year, I would advise to only share passionate kisses with those of whom you know and feel passionately towards.

Something else of which I have been eager to get out in the open is the pride I feel towards the people of the United States for coming together to provide for the people of Haiti. If I may get into politics, I believe that I will. Something that I have always desired when it comes to politics is less government. I don't believe that it is the governments job to provide money for individuals who are struggling. It is something that I have always felt strongly about. Now here is the catch. I do believe that it is the job of people who are blessed with a higher income to provide for the needs of those less privileged. What I don't like is the government deciding where my money should be put. I don't want my money to go to a cause that I am not passionate about. That makes me not want to give. If I am as blessed as my parents have been in the area of wealth, then I want to find a cause that I am so passionate about and give my money to them. Along the same lines, I believe it is the job of the CHURCH, not the government, to provide for the needy. Are we not called as Christ's followers to give everything we have to love God's people? That includes the people that we believe should get up off their rears and get jobs. Sometimes they don't know how to start, and need a kick to the pants and a how to guide to figure it out. Give out of the good of your heart to somebody who needs it, because we all know that's what Jesus would do. So, tying this back to the Haiti Relief, it shows me that people know how to do this. Yes, Haiti needs our love, prayers, support, everything right now. But lets also not forget the people living in our own country who are going through a different hell. Lets give to our neighbors in our country, too. The whole world needs saving, that means us too.

Anyway. That is about all I have got for right now. I'm going to go watch the Nickelodeon movie Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. Tah! Hope you're doing splendid!
